In honor of this beautiful spring weather and the start of tourist season in Charleston, I decided to visit the local Charleston Visitor Center. This great resource to visitors is only 1 ½ blocks from my home here at the Francis Marion.
The Visitor Center has tons of information on all activities in Charleston including bus tours, carriage tours, walking tours, plantation tours and much more! At the Visitor Center you can also view a video called “Forever Charleston,” that introduces you to our amazing city. They also have a great gift shop of Charleston souvenirs and gifts so I could buy gifts for my friends and family back at the Francis Marion.
During my visit I learned that the exhibit featuring the 85 year old replica of the Best Friend of Charleston Train is about to open. This steam-powered railroad locomotive is widely acclaimed to be the first locomotive built entirely within the United States. I was lucky enough to hop on board for a quick photo.
So…walk and enjoy my beautiful city this spring. There’s a lot waiting for you to see, including Charleston’s Best Friend.
