Sly with the Bees

The Swamp Fox Restaurant & Bar

387 King Street, Charleston, SC 29403

Hello, it’s Sly here.  Come & celebrate National Honeybee Day with me tomorrow Saturday, August 17, 2013 at the Swamp Fox Restaurant & Bar.  The Swamp Fox is named for Revolutionary War hero, General Francis Marion, and features classic Southern cuisine for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Chef de Cuisine Steve Klatt creates regional specialties that emphasize farm to table practices using locally grown fruits and vegetables with respect to the traditional beloved flavors and techniques of the Old South.

“Know your Farmer Know Your Food” is a USDA initiative to help more people understand where their food comes from and how they can support local food economies in their communities.  In preparing the Farmers Market Dinner, one of The Swamp Fox Restaurant’s specialtiesChef Steve Klatt expertly combines farm fresh sustainable ingredients showcasing Charleston’s locally supplied produce and meats.  This menu changes monthly and is based on product availability from our wonderful farmers.  See this month’s menu.

Click here to see a list of some local suppliers and “U-Pick” farms.  Some farms offer tours and enliven your tasting experience with their rich local history.  The Francis Marion Hotel is locally owned and operated and we are a Certified SC participant of Fresh on the Menu.

For such a special day as National Honeybee Day, Chef Klatt has created a recipe he is featuring on the Farmers Market Dinner until the end of August.  Check it out!  I enjoy my Honey Roasted Peaches drizzled with local honey from Bee City located in Cottageville, SC!
